Barbara Eden Shares Secrets To Her Happy 30-Year Marriage

Barbara Eden has spent decades delighting audiences worldwide, but when it comes to the secrets of her successful marriage, she's got some wisdom to share. Reflecting on her three-decade-long "happy" relationship with husband Jon Eicholtz, the legendary star of I Dream of Jeannie reveals in an exclusive interview with Closer that compromise plays a huge role in keeping their love strong.

Now 90, Barbara shares candidly about the importance of mutual respect and affection in a marriage. "I think you have to genuinely like each other," she says. "No, seriously, you do." According to Barbara, sometimes you have to put your partner's needs ahead of your own. For her, that means doing things like watching sports with Jon, even if it's not her favorite pastime. "I do it because I adore him," she explains with a warm smile.

Barbara, a Golden Globe nominee, acknowledges that she and Jon don’t always share the same hobbies. "We don’t necessarily have to enjoy the exact same things," she says. "I don’t play golf, and I’m not a big fan of watching baseball, but Jon loves cheering on the Angels. So, I watch with him because I love and respect him." This mutual understanding is key to their long-lasting relationship.

Jon's Role in Supporting Barbara's Career

On the other hand, Barbara appreciates how Jon supports her busy Hollywood career. "He’s incredibly understanding about my work," she says. "I feel incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful partnership," she adds.

Barbara often spends significant time away from home due to her demanding showbiz commitments. However, during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, she and Jon found themselves spending more time together than ever before. To keep things lively, they decided to adopt a new furry friend.

“We have a Labradoodle—a little boy who is absolutely spoiled,” Barbara shares with a chuckle. Although Jon can be a bit apprehensive around dogs, the couple has thoroughly enjoyed adding this playful pup to their family. "He brings so much joy into our lives," Barbara gushes.
