Sheinelle Jones Steps Back: The Support System in Place

Sheinelle Jones has found herself surrounded by an outpouring of support from her Today colleagues, including the ever-enthusiastic Willie Geist, as she takes a break from the spotlight. Willie made it crystal clear that the Today family is rallying behind her, ensuring she knows she's not alone during this challenging period, and even hinted at her anticipated return.

With heartfelt sincerity, Willie, who’s 49 years young, told People on a sunny Wednesday, April 16, “I cannot wait to see Sheinelle again. We’re giving her all the time she needs.”

“She’s dealing with a family matter or private matter, and she is such a valued member of our family,” Willie elaborated. “We want to just be there for her and whenever she feels ready to come back and sit with the group, we’ll give her the biggest hug she ever got.”

A Long-Awaited Return: Sheinelle's Time Away from the Spotlight

Sheinelle, who’s 46 years old, has been absent from Today since December 2024. In the following month, she revealed the reason behind her absence was due to a “family health matter.”

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” Sheinelle wrote in a heartfelt statement on Instagram, dated January 15. “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but also all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle.”

Sheinelle chose not to divulge further details about her personal challenges. She wasn’t present for her co-star Hoda Kotb’s farewell celebration on January 10, nor Craig Melvin’s first day as Savannah Guthrie’s co-anchor on January 13. Sheinelle also remained absent in February and March, with several of her Today colleagues stepping up to fill her shoes at the news desk.

Support from Co-Workers: A Family Bond

Her hiatus has stretched into this month, but her co-stars have been vocal with their thoughts and prayers during this period. Dylan Dreyer, Al Roker, and Craig, 45, have been vocal about rallying around Sheinelle.

“Just talked to her a couple of days ago. She’s taking some time to be with her family and we talk to her all the time, and we love our girl. It’s been nice to see how much everyone loves her, too,” Craig confided to Access Hollywood while soaking up the sun in Miami with Dylan, 43, and Al, 70, on April 12.

“We’re just praying for her,” Al expressed during the interview.

“She misses being here, you know, she wishes she was here with us but she’s doing what she needs to do and she’ll be back,” Dylan added, offering her support for Sheinelle.

Social media has also become a platform for fans to express their love and support for Sheinelle. Many users have taken to her Instagram account to leave thoughtful and encouraging messages.

“We miss you SO much, the third hour is not the same without you, but sending lots of strength and support. Take good care and we’ll see you soon we hope,” one fan commented.
