As the play progressed, the chemistry between Dan and Heidi grew stronger, especially during the pivotal scene where their characters tied the knot. “Our characters get married at the end of the play, and we shared a kiss onstage. Somehow that kiss seemed to get longer during every performance,” Dan recalled with a laugh. It wasn’t long before they both realized they couldn’t ignore the spark any longer.

Once their respective relationships ended, Dan and Heidi gave their relationship a chance. As they started dating, the couple faced the inevitable question of whether they wanted to take their relationship to the next level. “One weekend we were in Saint-Sauveur, a picturesque ski town north of Montreal. We were discussing our future—should we stay in Montreal or move somewhere else for our careers?” Dan explained. “Heidi said, ‘If we’re going to move to another city together, if we’re going to change our whole lives together—maybe we should just get married.’”

It was a moment of clarity that sealed their fate. Dan proposed, and the couple tied the knot in 2012. Interestingly, the director who had cast them in As You Like It played a pivotal role once again, officiating their wedding in Montreal.

After exchanging vows, Dan and Heidi wasted no time in finding their dream home and starting a family. They settled on a beautiful farm nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, where they could live a life surrounded by nature. “We have 26 dogs, one for each letter of the alphabet,” Dan joked. “We own a souped-up RV, and we spend a few months every year on road trips. It’s a lifestyle that allows us to explore the country and make unforgettable memories together.”

In 2015, Dan and Heidi welcomed their son, completing their family. “Heidi was due right around the time when we were shooting the most recent Good Witch TV movie,” Dan shared. “I spent a week and a half on set, obsessively checking my phone for any news from Heidi. Finally, the shoot was over, and there was a month-long hiatus starting on a Tuesday. Our son was born on Wednesday, 10 days past due! So either Heidi held him in until my schedule was all clear, or this little boy just has a great sense of timing.”

For Dan, parenthood has been a joyous journey. He loves spending time with his son, reading stories, and creating lasting memories. “There’s something truly magical about being a father,” Dan reflected. “It’s a role I never imagined I’d cherish so deeply.”
