Their family expanded further in 2008 with the birth of their second son, Thomas, named after Jack’s birth name, Thomas Jacob Black. Since welcoming both of his sons into the world, Jack has made it a point to include them in his film premieres, creating unforgettable memories on the red carpet over the years. He’s also been generous with his parenting wisdom, offering advice that resonates with many.

“Listen. Listen to your kids,” Jack advised in an interview with People in April 2022. “We often focus so much on giving the right advice, but what’s even more crucial is listening. It’s essential for their communication skills. They need to know that someone is hearing them and that they’re getting the practice to form their own ideas. It’s about fostering that connection.”

While Jack cherishes his close relationship with his children, he’s not immune to those classic dad moments that make kids roll their eyes. In fact, he embraces them with humor and humility.

“I’m the dorky dad that my boys are embarrassed by,” Jack confessed to Us Weekly at the premiere of The House With a Clock in Its Walls in September 2018. “They’re always telling me, ‘Shut up, Dad. You’re so dumb.’” Despite the occasional embarrassment, Jack hopes that these moments will eventually become cherished memories.

At the same premiere, Samuel and Thomas joined Jack and Tanya, making it a true family affair. Jack joked about the outing, saying, “I’m hoping this is going to be the turning point where they go, ‘Oh, my God, Dad. You’re so cool.’ But don’t hold your breath.” It’s evident that Jack values these family moments, even if they come with a side of playful teasing from his sons.
