It’s been three decades since Mrs. Doubtfire hit the big screen, and the magic of that beloved film lives on. Recently, the stars of the classic movie came together for a heartwarming reunion that has fans smiling from ear to ear. Lisa Jakub, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson, who played the Hillard kids, gathered on May 1, proving that time can’t weaken the bond they formed during filming. If you thought they couldn’t look more charming back then, just wait till you see them now—time has only added to their charm.
“The sisters had so much fun hanging out with the brothers. @marawilson and @matthewlawrence still feel like my siblings – even 30 years after filming Mrs. Doubtfire,” Lisa shared in an Instagram post. “And @andrewlawrence and @joeylawrence are just part of the extended family. I had such a great time doing the @officialbrotherlylovepod, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
Mara Wilson, who played the youngest Hillard sibling, couldn’t help but share her excitement about the reunion. At 36, she joined Lisa, 45, and Matthew, 44, along with Matthew's brothers Andrew and Joey Lawrence. “So funny that the same week I went to San Francisco, I got to reunite with my Doubtfire siblings!” Mara captioned the photos. “It’s always such a joy to see @lisa.jakub and @matthewlawrence, and it’s always so much fun to be on @officialbrotherlylovepod.”

Reactions from fans have been pouring in, with many reminiscing about their childhood memories tied to the film. “The nostalgia is so strong in this pic. I can honestly say every single one of you were part of my childhood and growing up,” one fan wrote. “Love all of you – each of you are attached to so many memories growing up.”
Another fan added, “Such an amazing film you guys made. And with a realistic end which made it all the more real and relatable. Good to see you all together again.”
Of course, no discussion about Mrs. Doubtfire would be complete without mentioning the legendary Robin Williams, who played the titular role. Alongside co-stars Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, and Harvey Fierstein, Williams brought the film to life. Tragically, he passed away in August 2014 at the age of 63, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire.
Before his passing, Williams was in talks for a possible sequel. Director Chris Columbus revealed in a 2023 interview with Business Insider that the late comedian wasn’t initially keen on the idea of a follow-up. “Back then, there was an attitude that sequels were looked down upon by the artists,” Columbus explained. “So Robin was against doing a sequel immediately after.”
“He and I didn’t talk about a sequel until the year he passed away,” Columbus continued. “We had a script that was written, and it was the last time I saw Robin. I went to his house, and we sat down and talked about it. The script was really strong. Robin’s only comment was, ‘Boss, do I have to be in the suit as much this time?’ It was physically demanding. For Robin, I think it was like running a marathon every day he was in the Doubtfire costume. He was older, obviously.”
After Robin’s death, Columbus made it clear that a sequel would never happen. “We talked about it, and I think he was hoping in the rewrite we would cut back on the Doubtfire character,” Columbus said. “But then Robin passed away, so there will never be a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire.”
