Why Did 'The Real' Get Canceled?

The Real launched its first episode in July 2013 with a lineup featuring Tamera Mowry, Jeannie Mai, Tamar Braxton, Adrienne Bailon, and Loni Love as original co-hosts. But as with any long-running show, changes were inevitable. Tamar Braxton left the series in 2016, and in 2019, comedian Amanda Seales stepped in as a guest co-host before becoming a permanent fixture in season 7. However, Amanda decided to part ways with the show after season 6 wrapped up in June 2020, citing personal reasons.

Just a month after Amanda Seales left, Tamera Mowry also announced her departure after seven years on the show. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude to the team and fans. "To my fellow hosts, I love you, I will miss you and I will always be there for you," the Sister, Sister star wrote. "Thank you for teaching me, supporting me, and loving all of me. Sisters forever. I’ll be rooting for you as I look forward to spending more time with my family, pursuing amazing new opportunities, and embarking on the next chapter of my life."

But despite the fresh energy, Warner Bros. and Telepictures made the tough decision to cancel The Real in April 2022 during its eighth season. Loni Love took to Instagram to share the news with her fans and gave her take on why the show ended.

"In the end, The Real cast and crew did everything we could to keep the show alive," Loni explained. "We shot seven to eight shows in three days, no audience, turned a conference room into a studio—but in my opinion, the costs brought on by the pandemic ultimately killed this show."

The hosts said their goodbyes during the emotional series finale in June 2022. Adrienne Bailon summed up the show's legacy, saying, "We’ve made our mark. I was talking to my mom this morning. She knows this is the farewell show, and she told me, 'you guys really did break the mold of daytime television.' It's crazy when you think about it—there was never a show that looked like us. And I am so grateful. I hope we’re not the last."

What Are the Hosts of 'The Real' Doing Now?

Even though the series finale marked the end of an era, the show's hosts have stayed busy in Hollywood. Tamar Braxton, who left the show in 2016, went on to win season 2 of Celebrity Big Brother in 2019. Since then, she’s launched her own docuseries, Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!, started the 'Under Construction With Tamar Braxton' podcast, and joined the cast of The Surreal Life.

Amanda Seales has been thriving with her podcast and radio show, The Amanda Seales Show, which she started during her time on The Real
