The HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes have always been about giving back, and this year is no different! In 2023, the network tapped Brian Patrick Flynn to design a stunning home in Morrison, Colorado, for one lucky winner. Not only does the winner get a dream house, but they also walk away with a cash prize. Let’s dive deeper into Brian’s life, his incredible career, his relationship, and what makes him tick.
Before Brian became a household name as an interior designer on HGTV and Magnolia Network, he had dreams of being a film director. But life has a funny way of steering us in unexpected directions. His friends noticed his incredible eye for design and encouraged him to explore this talent. It wasn’t long before he began sharing his home renovation projects on social media, which eventually caught the attention of none other than Joanna Gaines in 2015.
Brian opened up to People magazine in July 2022 about his connection with Joanna. “We just hit it off,” he said. “A few weeks later, we developed the show together, and we’ve been friends ever since. I feel incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity.”

As the host of Mind for Design, Brian was thrilled to take on the HGTV Dream Home project after more than five years of designing homes for television. In a December 2022 statement, he shared his excitement about the project. “This year’s HGTV Dream Home is designed around the natural beauty of Morrison, with outdoor spaces that truly feel like a secluded, breathtaking oasis,” he said. “I love to honor the local culture through my designs, and this home celebrates the adventure that Colorado is known for.”
Brian married his soulmate, costume designer Hollis Smith, in December 2017 after dating for 12 years. The couple initially planned a trip to Antarctica for vacation, but Brian had other plans. He told Harper’s Bazaar in March 2018, “About three months after booking the trip, I started thinking we should get married. I randomly asked him, ‘How do you feel about us getting married in Antarctica?’”
Their wedding was nothing short of extraordinary, and they celebrated their five-year anniversary in December 2022. Brian shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, reflecting on their journey. “Five years ago today, we braved the most dangerous, unpredictable, and untouched part of planet Earth, Antarctica, to tie the knot on an ice floe surrounded by penguins, leopard seals, and scientists from all seven continents,” he wrote. “It was absolutely the most epic day, not to mention, the most incredible experience of my life [so far]. Seventeen years together, and countless more ahead, plus new milestones to come. Happy anniversary, Mister.”
With his incredible talent and dedication, Brian has amassed an estimated net worth between $5 million and $7 million, according to various reports. His success is a testament to his hard work and passion for design.
