Here’s something that’ll warm your heart: Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl gave their fans a major holiday boost with a new photo from their 2024 celebrations. These two icons of the screen, who found love later in life, are showing everyone that love and joy are timeless.
Linda Purl, the talented actress who just turned 69, took to Instagram on January 4 to share a delightful snapshot. In the photo, we see the couple sitting cozily on their sofa, with Patrick Duffy, who’s 75, holding a tray of beautifully frosted cookies. Behind them, their Christmas tree sparkles with colorful ornaments and twinkling lights, creating the perfect festive backdrop.
Patrick Duffy, known for his role in the classic series Dallas, is dressed casually in a slightly unbuttoned white shirt with a gray T-shirt underneath, while Linda Purl, famous for her role in Happy Days, is dressed for the occasion in a chic black sweater adorned with shoulder cutouts and pearl beading. Both are sporting colorful paper crowns on their heads, adding a playful touch to the festive atmosphere.

In her Instagram caption, Linda hinted that the holiday decorations had already been packed away, but the memories of their special time together remain. She wrote, “Boo hoo…Christmas put away for another year. May the spirit prevail in 2025!” Her words reflect the bittersweet feeling of letting go of the holiday season while looking forward to the next one with anticipation.
Their fans were quick to respond, showering the couple with love and well-wishes. Many wished them a Happy New Year, while others were touched by their romance. One follower commented, “You two are the most adorable!” while another added, “You two are so cute! It’s wonderful that you found each other! Happy New Year!”
Since Patrick and Linda began dating in 2020, their fans have been rooting for them every step of the way. It’s inspiring to see two people finding love later in life, proving that love knows no age limits.
For Patrick Duffy, finding love again wasn’t always on the table. He was married to Carlyn Rosser for 43 years, from 1974 until her passing in 2017 at the age of 77. Together, they raised two sons, Padraic and Conor. After Carlyn’s death, Patrick wasn’t ready to move on. In a 2019 interview with Closer, he opened up about how much he missed her, saying, “I feel close to her all the time, [but] what I miss most is her touch.” He added, “I still consider myself a married man.”
Patrick shared how unexpected Carlyn’s passing was, and the adjustment it brought into his life. “It was a surprise when she passed. There was no indication. So that was the big adjustment,” he admitted. “My boys were there as stalwarts. But I also realized that, as much as they were trying to buttress old Dad up, I’m probably more adjusted to this set of circumstances than they are. You reach a certain age and you realize the road ahead is much shorter than the road behind.”
Things changed for Patrick during the challenging times of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. It was then that he reconnected with Linda Purl, a friend he’d known casually for years, introduced by mutual pal Richard Thomas in 2000. They started chatting on a group text chain, and soon it was just the two of them talking.

Patrick and Linda’s conversations went from light and fun to something deeper over the months. As the Mighty Joe Young star told Senior Planet, “Even though we were both in quarantine—Patrick in Oregon and Linda in Colorado—it felt like something special was brewing.”
Patrick took a bold step to see if this connection was real. “I loaded up my car and drove 20 hours and ended up on her doorstep just to see if it was real,” he told People in November 2020. “We haven’t been apart since.”
Patrick revealed to Senior Planet that he was the first to say the “L-word.” One night, as they were saying goodbye on Zoom, he confessed, “Sleep tight, I love you.” He joked, “I pushed the off button and went, ‘Oh my god. I said the L-word!’”
For Linda, their relationship has been a joyous discovery. “It’s thrilling to pull someone into the weave of your life at this stage,” she told Closer in September 2024. “After all, we’re not in our 20s. The coming-together is easier now. We’re not building our careers. We’re not still trying to figure out what our real interests, desires, and values are. Those are, for better or worse, already established.”
The couple has found that their lives blend beautifully. “There were not many surprises,” Patrick said, crediting their deep conversations during the lockdown. “Blending our lives together was 90 percent seamless. People say this all the time, but it felt like we’d been together 40 years.”
They continue to split their time between Patrick’s Oregon ranch and Linda’s Colorado home, creating a life that’s fulfilling and joyful. While the question of marriage remains open
