Who doesn’t love a good love story? Well, Reba McEntire and her partner, Rex Linn, are showing us how it's done! The dynamic duo recently marked their five-year anniversary, and they did it in style by sharing a heartwarming photo together. It’s clear that this couple is as strong as ever, and their fans couldn’t be happier for them.
On January 24, Reba, who’s now 69, posted a charming picture on Instagram with a playful caption: “Celebrating five years of tater tots this week! #thetots #anniversary.” Now, if you're wondering what "tater tots" has to do with their relationship, let me fill you in. Rex, who's 68, gave Reba the playful nickname "Tater Tot" after a dinner date where they enjoyed the classic side dish. It's a story that’s as adorable as it is simple.
Reba, the beloved coach from The Voice, recounted the origin of her quirky nickname during a previous interview. It all started when they were out for dinner and decided to stop by a wine bar afterward. During their visit, a waiter mentioned the appetizers they served. “Well, I understand that you’ve already had dinner, but we do have some good appetizers,” the waiter said. Reba recalls asking, “What do you have?” The waiter replied, “We have tater tots.” That’s when Rex playfully declared, “That’s your nickname from here on out: Tater Tot.”

Not to be outdone, Reba gave Rex his own special moniker: Sugar Tot. Together, they’ve become "Sugar and Tater," a couple who clearly enjoys the little things in life. “We’ve been together ever since,” Reba reminisced with a smile. “He’s a sweetheart, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner.”
Fans have been cheering for the couple since they were first spotted together in early 2020. When asked about the possibility of tying the knot, Reba has always been open about her feelings. In an interview with E! News in April 2024, she shared, “If that’s something he feels totally strong about, that’s fine with me. Rex has never been married before, so if he wants to experience that, I’m completely OK with it.”
Reba’s journey hasn’t always been straightforward. She was married twice before—first to Charlie Battles from 1976 to 1987, and then to Narvel Blackstock from 1989 to 2015. Together with Narvel, she welcomed her son, Shelby Blackstock, in 1990. Now, with Rex, she’s found a new kind of happiness that seems to suit her perfectly.
Reba and Rex aren’t just partners in love—they’re also partners on screen. Fans of Happy’s Place get to see this wonderful couple in action. In October 2024, Reba told Us Weekly, “I’ve got two great jobs. I have a love of my life, Rex Linn. We’ve been together for almost five years. And my health is good, his health is good. My family is healthy. What more could I ask for?”
She described their relationship as one built on mutual understanding and shared passions. “Rex and I are best friends,” she explained. “We have the same likes and dislikes. We’re foodies. We love to cook. We each wanted to be a cowboy and a cowgirl, but life took us down a different path in the entertainment world. Our connection works both on-screen and off.”
When they’re not working, the couple enjoys spending quality time at home. “It depends if there’s a college football game on,” Reba joked. “If so, we’ll be glued to the television. If not, we’re rehearsing, or going outside to feed the birds and water the rose garden. We just love being together.”

Reba shared how Rex has positively impacted her life. “I think we’ve made each other better. Rex brings out the little girl in me, and I love it. I’m dorky, I’m goofy, and so is he. We laugh a lot, and we genuinely love each other. We’re always on the lookout for a new series or movie to watch. Right now, we’re into The Penguin—it’s been a blast!”
