But that wasn’t the end of their family journey. Three years later, in 1992, they added another bundle of joy to their lives—a daughter named Sophie. Sophie, who’s also a musician, once opened up to People magazine about how she’d meet so many famous people at their house without even realizing it. “My dad will say, ‘You’ve met that person. They were at the house.’ And I won’t remember meeting them,” she explained. “I’ll say, ‘I love Christian Aguilera,’ and he’ll say, ‘Oh yeah, you met her. You were 10.’ Like, what? I don’t remember! No one ever told me these people were important when I was younger. To me, they were just ‘our friends.’”

A Musical Legacy

Of course, growing up with a rock legend meant Sophie and Nick were surrounded by incredible music from day one. Sophie, who inherited her dad’s love for music, told Harper’s Bazaar about the diverse playlist her parents played around the house. “My parents played Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles, The Monkees, and The Who—these powerful pop melodies with a touch of jazz influence,” she reminisced. “That’s what shaped my taste in music. Even now, I base my own music off of that foundation.”

She went on to explain her approach to creating music: “Every song needs to have a personal connection or at least be something I enjoy singing. Sometimes, I hear songs that feel so monotone emotionally, and I wish artists wouldn’t overcorrect their singing in post-production. It takes away the personality. Music should have soul, and I want to keep that alive in everything I create.”
