Since bursting onto the scene with her unforgettable role in the 1988 film Working Girl, Melanie Griffith has become a true Hollywood legend. Known for her striking blonde hair and signature bright red lipstick, she’s carved out a place for herself in the hearts of fans worldwide. Over the years, however, Melanie's appearance has gone through some significant changes, sparking both curiosity and critique from her devoted fanbase.
Let’s take it back to the late '80s when Melanie first captured our attention. Her performance in Working Girl was nothing short of iconic, and it set the stage for a long and illustrious career in Hollywood. Fans couldn’t get enough of her vibrant personality and unmistakable style. But as time went on, like many in the public eye, Melanie decided to explore cosmetic procedures to maintain her youthful look. And let me tell you, the reactions were mixed.
“People started saying, ‘Oh my God, what has she done?!’ I was so hurt,” Melanie shared during a candid 2017 interview with Porter magazine. She went on to explain how she sought help from another doctor to undo some of the work. “He started dissolving all of this stuff that this other doctor had put in. Hopefully, I look more normal now,” she added. It’s clear that Melanie has been open about her journey, sharing both the highs and lows with her fans.

This wasn’t the first time Melanie had to confront criticism about her appearance. Back in 2012, she revealed that fans were leaving unkind comments on Twitter. “Most people are telling me I look horrible,” she admitted. But Melanie didn’t let it get her down. She pointed out that she works hard to stay in shape, working out with a trainer four times a week and even practicing hot yoga. “I don’t know if I look that great, but I’m doing everything I can,” she said with a laugh.

Melanie has also been outspoken about the unique pressures older women face in Hollywood. In a memorable interview on Larry King Live back in 2002, she recounted a story about how Revlon moved her from one product line to another designed for an "age-defying" audience—at the age of 34! “I was extremely flattered about the line, but come on, age-defying at 34? Shouldn’t age-defying be at, like, 50 or 60?” she joked on the show. It’s clear that Melanie understands the industry’s quirks and isn’t afraid to call them out.
Despite the ups and downs of her career, Melanie has always prioritized her family. After taking time off to raise her three children—Dakota Johnson, Alexander Bauer, and Stella Banderas—she’s thrilled to be back in the acting world. “Yeah, it’s kind of funny. People go, ‘Wow, you’re a really good actress.’ And I go, ‘Well, yeah. I worked forever. I know what I’m doing and I love what I do. So, thank you?’” she said in 2016. “People forget very easily in this business. They have a short memory.”

Even after their divorce in 2015, Melanie and her ex-husband Antonio Banderas remain close. They’re both committed to ensuring their kids remain the top priority. “Even if we are divorced, she is my family and I will love her until the day I die,” Antonio told People magazine in 2018. “We have been in contact all these years and we managed to do a separation that is very elegant. Our kids are enjoying that and that is very important for both of us. Our kids are priority number one.”
