They both thrive in the bustling world of Hollywood, yet David Oyelowo and his wife, Jessica, have managed to keep their marriage strong for over two decades. The secret? A simple yet powerful rule they've both sworn by.
Here's the scoop: David, who's 43 years young, opened up exclusively to Closer Weekly during the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Patron of the Artists Awards on November 7. He shared how they've navigated the challenges of a demanding industry by sticking to their "two-week rule." "In a profession that can really test marriages, my wife and I have made it a point that we're never apart for more than two weeks," David said. "And guess what? We've stuck to that for 21 incredible years," he proudly added. "Well, except that one time when we went over by 11 hours—blame that on Tim Burton!"
David explained the one time they broke their golden rule. "Jessica was working on a film with Tim Burton, and they suddenly changed the schedule. We ended up being apart for just over two weeks," he recounted. "We were both so upset about it that we cried, but we made a promise never to let it happen again. And guess what? It hasn't!"

David and Jessica tied the knot back in 1998, and they've been raising two amazing kids—sons Asher and Caleb. Parenthood has given them an even greater purpose, and they're instilling a powerful lesson in their children. "We teach them kindness. It's all about thinking of others before yourself," David shared. "I see this beautifully reflected in Ava DuVernay's work, where she supports female directors and performers. In a world where it's easy to focus on yourself, my wife and I are determined to raise our kids to be selfless." But let's not forget, they also carve out time just for the two of them.
When asked about their go-to date night, David laughed and said, "It might sound a little boring, but we love dinner and a movie. My wife and I enjoy diving into the deeper meaning of films and debating their virtues. Travel is another big passion for us." Sounds like the perfect balance, right?
