For over five decades, Jack Nicholson has been a towering figure in Hollywood, starring in blockbuster films and racking up numerous awards. Amid his bustling career, he was married once to actress Sandra Knight. The couple tied the knot in 1962, but their union only lasted until 1968. Let’s dive into Sandra's story and how her life unfolded after her marriage to the legendary actor.
Born in 1939, Sandra grew up with a passion for singing and dancing, dreaming of becoming an actress while in college. Her big break came in 1958 when she landed a role in the film Thunder Road. However, it wasn't until 1963's The Terror that she shared the screen with Jack Nicholson. Interestingly, the pair had met years earlier when they were both starting out in the entertainment world.
In a revealing June 2010 interview with Alan Mercer, Sandra recounted her first encounter with Jack. "I met Jack when I was 14, and my father worked for MGM. I worked as a messenger girl one summer, and he was a messenger boy," she recalled. "He and his friends were a bit older, always laughing and having fun, so I thought they were really cool. A few years later, we met again at Martin Landau’s acting class. We rehearsed a scene from Tennessee Williams’ play Summer and Smoke, and that's when the spark ignited."

A year after their wedding, Sandra and Jack welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Nicholson. Following in her parents' footsteps, Jennifer pursued acting, appearing in films like Hoff and Inevitable Grace. Eventually, she transitioned to a career in clothing design. After their marriage ended, Sandra moved to Hawaii with her daughter, but she fondly remembered her time with Jack. "The real Jack is a loving, caring, giving person," she told Closer exclusively in June 2016. "We had a very beautiful, sweet marriage."
Following her high-profile marriage, Sandra decided to step away from acting to focus on raising her daughter. She took classes at the Otis Art Institute, where she developed a passion for painting. Later, she pursued life coaching, which led her to meet her second husband, John Stephenson. "We met at a spiritual seminar," Sandra shared. "John is a writer, artist, and teacher of spiritual principles, giving seminars worldwide. We travel extensively to places like Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and England."
In the '80s, Sandra and John married and formed their own production company, Synergy Production. Sandra also served on the Board of Directors of the Hawaii International Film Festival and wrote several screenplays. In 1996, she became a grandmother when Jennifer gave birth to her first son, Sean, with her ex-husband, Mark Norfleet. Two years later, they welcomed Duke, who has since embarked on his own acting career, following in his grandparents' illustrious footsteps.
