Mario Batali: Public Apology, Personal Life, And Career Highlights

Listen, friends, I know you’ve been hearing a lot about Mario Batali lately. The celebrity chef recently issued a heartfelt apology to his "friends and family" after acknowledging allegations of sexual misconduct. Multiple women who worked with the The Chew star came forward, and Mario didn’t shy away from the truth. In a statement released on Monday, December 11, he admitted, “I apologize to the people I have mistreated and hurt. Even though the identities of most of the individuals mentioned in these stories haven’t been revealed to me, much of the behavior described does, in fact, match up with ways I have acted.”

Mario went on to say, “That behavior was wrong, and there are no excuses. I take full responsibility and am deeply sorry for any pain, humiliation, or discomfort I have caused to my peers, employees, customers, friends, and family.” He acknowledged that his actions have disappointed many people. “The successes I’ve enjoyed belong to everyone on my team, but the failures are mine alone. To those who’ve stood by me during this time—my family, my partners, my employees, my friends, my fans—I’m grateful for your support and hopeful that I can regain your respect and trust. I’ll spend the next period of time trying to do just that.” If you’re curious about Mario’s life beyond the headlines, keep reading to learn more about the man behind the culinary empire.

    Is Mario Batali Married?

Let’s talk about Mario’s personal life. Yes, Mario has been happily married to Susi Cahn for over two decades—23 years to be exact. They tied the knot way back in 1994. Susi is no stranger to the culinary world herself; she works for Coach Dairy Goat Farm in Pine Plains, New York. Mario’s in-laws, Miles and Lillian Cahn, are the co-founders of Coach, Inc., a name you might recognize. Nowadays, Mario and Susi call Greenwich Village in New York City home, but they also have a cozy summer house on Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan. Sounds like a pretty sweet setup, right?

    Does Mario Batali Have Kids?

Of course, Mario and Susi aren’t just enjoying life as a couple—they’re also proud parents. They have two sons, Leo and Benno Batali. It’s not just about the food for Mario; family is clearly a big part of his life, and it seems like he’s building a pretty amazing one with Susi and their kids.

What Is Mario Batali’s Net Worth?

When you think of Mario Batali, you probably think of his incredible culinary career. But just how successful has he been? In 2015, the Daily Mail estimated Mario’s net worth to be around $30 million. That’s not too shabby for a guy who wears those signature clogs. Mario isn’t just a chef—he’s also a writer, restaurateur, and co-host of The Chew on ABC. He’s co-owned Italian restaurants in some of the most iconic cities around the world, including New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Boston, Singapore, and even a couple of spots in Connecticut. But it doesn’t stop there. As of 2017, Mario has authored 13 cookbooks, including fan favorites like The Babbo Cookbook (2002), Molto Italiano (2005), Molto Gusto: Easy Italian Cooking (2010), and America Farm to Table: Simple, Delicious Recipes Celebrating Local Farmers (2014). If there’s one thing Mario knows how to do, it’s cook up a storm both in the kitchen and on paper.

Here’s the tough part of Mario’s story. Yes, Mario was fired from The Chew in December 2017 following those allegations of sexual misconduct. It was a tough blow for the chef, who later admitted to a pattern of inappropriate behavior after four women accused him of misconduct in an article for Eater. These allegations spanned at least two decades, and three of the accusers had worked for Mario in the past. In a statement to People magazine, ABC said, “We have asked Mario Batali to step away from The Chew while we review the allegations that have just recently come to our attention. ABC takes matters like this very seriously as we are committed to a safe work environment. While we are unaware of any type of inappropriate behavior involving him and anyone affiliated with the show, we will swiftly address any alleged violations of our standards of conduct.”
