It's been almost four years since the passing of Hollywood legend James Garner in July 2014 at the age of 86. Today, his daughter, Gigi Garner, paints a heartwarming picture of her father as a man who was much more than just a famous face on the screen. For Gigi, her dad was simply "a good guy."
In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, Gigi, now 60, shared her cherished memories of her father. She described how he made a conscious effort to stay connected with her, no matter where his career took him. "He was just a good guy — the guy with the white hat," Gigi fondly reminisced, capturing the essence of her father's character.

Gigi was born in January 1958 to James and his wife, Lois Clarke, two years after the star of Maverick married Lois. Their love story is one that feels like it was pulled straight from the silver screen. James once described meeting Lois at an Adlai Stevenson for President rally on August 1, 1956. "I fell in love for the first and last time," he said, recalling how Lois captured his heart instantly. Despite the challenges they faced, including opposition from James' Methodist family due to Lois being Jewish, their love only grew stronger. In fact, James proposed to Lois just two weeks after they met. Lois revealed that a single tear ran down James' cheek when she said yes, and he confided in her, "I never thought anybody would love me."
