Before meeting Jeff, Joan was married to her first husband, Michael A. Krauss, from 1978 to 1992. Together, they had three wonderful children—Jamie, Lindsay, and Sarah. After their marriage ended, Joan found herself navigating the dating world as a single mom. Her friends, eager to help her find love again, began setting her up on dates with various successful businessmen. But as Joan reflected in an interview with Motherhood Later, these setups just didn't feel right.

"A lot of my high-powered girlfriends set me up with incredibly successful businessmen who were about as boring as you can imagine," Joan recalled. "I realized early on that I didn't want someone detached, someone whose mind was always focused on the next deal. I wanted a partner who would be fully present in my life, embrace my kids, and someone I could have fun with. I wanted to wake up in the morning and feel genuinely happy to be next to him."

Then, fate stepped in. During a casual lunch at a deli, Joan had a chance encounter that would change her life forever. Jeff Konigsberg approached her table and struck up a conversation. "He came over and said, 'Oh hi. Obviously, I know you, but you don’t know me. I almost had dinner at your house in the Hamptons last summer. I was invited through a friend but couldn’t go. I own children’s camps in Maine, and I’m there all summer, but maybe we can have dinner together another time?'” Joan remembered.

After their initial meeting, Joan and Jeff quickly realized they were on the same page when it came to what they wanted in life and in a relationship. Their love grew stronger with each passing day, and in 2000, they officially tied the knot. Over two decades later, their marriage remains as vibrant and loving as ever.

Joan has often credited Jeff with helping her make positive lifestyle changes, especially after her battle with breast cancer. "I married a guy who owns summer camps," she told Closer in November 2020. "We live in Maine all summer where there are tennis courts, a climbing wall, and hiking trails. My husband also got me the ultimate birthday gift—a fitness mirror. It's incredible because there's a person in front of me, and I'm following their lead. It's been a game-changer for me."

In addition to her three children from her first marriage, Joan and Jeff have added four more children to their family—two sets of twins: Kate and Max, and Kimberly and Jack. As the proud mother of seven, Joan has learned how to balance being a mom with making time for herself.

"Raising this blended family is incredibly energizing for me," Joan once told Closer. "I've always been someone who takes on life at full speed, so I believe I made a wise choice in marrying Jeff. He's been the perfect partner in every way, and together, we've created a beautiful life filled with love and laughter."
