Beloved actress Valerie Harper had a knack for turning housework into a celebration. If you ever wondered what it was like to clean with her, just picture this: Little Richard's soulful tunes or the Beach Boys' harmonious melodies blasting in the background. Her daughter, Cristina Cacciotti, recently opened up to Closer Weekly about those lively moments. "More often than not, we'd be dancing around instead of actually working," Cristina reminisced with a smile. "My mom was simply a person brimming with joy."
In 2013, Valerie was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. This diagnosis came with a grim initial prognosis, yet Valerie defied the odds by surviving much longer than expected, thanks to experimental cancer-fighting drugs. Now, unfortunately, those miracle medicines have stopped working. Despite the challenges, Valerie’s spirit remained unbroken, a testament to her incredible resilience and determination.
As Valerie's health began to decline, her family faced the heart-wrenching task of preparing for her departure. Her daughter, Cristina, who is 36, revealed that her mother's doctors recommended hospice care. However, Cristina's father, Tony Cacciotti, has fiercely resisted this idea. Married to Valerie since 1987, Tony explained his unwavering commitment in a heartfelt Facebook post to their fans. "Because of our 40 years of shared commitment to each other, I can't put her in hospice," he wrote. "I will do everything in my power to make Valerie as comfortable as possible."

Tony’s devotion has been both a source of strength and a heavy burden. Cristina admitted that her father has been so consumed with caring for Valerie that he's become somewhat withdrawn from the world. "He struggles deeply with the concept of death," Cristina explained. "My mom is the center of his world, both personally and professionally. She is his everything."
