Peggy Lipton: A Hollywood Legend Remembered By Her Daughters

In the vibrant tapestry of Hollywood history, Peggy Lipton stands out as a true icon—a gifted actress, model, and singer who captivated audiences with her charm and talent. But for her daughters, Kidada Jones and Rashida Jones, she was much more than just a star. She was their mom, their guiding light, and their biggest inspiration. Let’s take a closer look at the life of this remarkable woman and how she influenced her daughters to become the incredible people they are today.

An Unforgettable Love Story

Peggy Lipton’s journey to motherhood began in 1972 when she met the legendary Quincy Jones. At the time, Peggy was already making waves in the entertainment industry, starring as the beloved detective Julie Barnes on the hit crime series The Mod Squad. “I knew he was The One the moment I met him,” Peggy once revealed in an interview with Next Tribe in November 2018. It was a meeting that would change her life forever.

A Beautiful Beginning

After two years of dating, Peggy and Quincy decided to take the next step in their relationship. In 1974, they exchanged vows in a breathtaking ceremony surrounded by friends and family. That same year, they welcomed their first child, Kidada, into the world. Two years later, in 1976, Rashida joined the family, completing their picture-perfect life. Although the couple eventually parted ways after 14 years of marriage in 1990, the bond they shared as parents remained unshaken.

Being the children of two Hollywood legends, Kidada and Rashida were thrust into the limelight from a very young age. Growing up under the watchful eyes of the media, they faced unique challenges but also had the privilege of learning from two of the most talented individuals in the industry. As they grew older, both sisters followed in their parents’ footsteps, carving out successful careers as actresses. Peggy had the joy of watching her daughters flourish into celebrated stars in their own right.

A Legacy of Strength and Grace

Tragically, Peggy passed away in May 2019 at the age of 72 after a courageous 15-year battle with colon cancer. Her daughters, Kidada and Rashida, shared a heartfelt statement with the world, expressing their love and admiration for their mother. “She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side,” the statement read, according to the L.A. Times. “We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her. We can’t put all of our feelings into words right now, but we will say: Peggy was and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us.”

    Keeping the Memory Alive

Since Peggy’s passing, Kidada and Rashida have dedicated themselves to honoring their mother’s legacy. On what would have been Peggy’s 74th birthday in August 2020, the sisters took to social media to celebrate her life. Rashida posted a sweet tribute alongside a nostalgic photo of her mom, writing, “Happy birthday, mama. I feel you smiling down on us. Miss you every day in every way.” Kidada also shared a touching message, expressing her deep love for her mother. “My first love. My true love. My forever love. Happy birthday, my precious mommy,” she wrote.
