Andrew, Joe’s second son, found love and married Brianna in June 2016. Just a few weeks later, Joey tied the knot with his wife, Catherine. Joe often speaks fondly of his family and has been open about the health challenges Andrew has faced. Back in 2005, Andrew was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, and in 2011, he was also diagnosed with diabetes. But the challenges didn't stop there. In September 2016, Andrew suffered a traumatic brain injury and a fractured skull after falling down a flight of stairs. Joe, ever the supportive dad, shared during an episode of Morning Joe that Andrew was “doing much, much better” just days after the accident.

Reflecting on those difficult times, Joe now cherishes every moment he gets to spend with his kids. “For so long, Joey and Andrew have been off at school and working in cities too far away!” Joe wrote on Instagram in November 2021. “With Joey now producing Mika and my podcasts (and Andrew living right up the road), we get to all be together so much more. Any parent knows that the only time a mom or dad really sleeps well is when all the kids are under their roof. That’s happening a lot more now and it is something I am very grateful for every day!”

Joe has also opened up about the lessons he's learned from his own father when it comes to parenting. “Like any kid, you overlook the obvious,” he shared with MSNBC. “And I remember it came to me: I said, ‘wait, when was my dad there? Oh, wait a second – my dad was there all the time. My dad was there every Sunday when we went to church … every Little League baseball game.’”

Joe’s career path was also inspired by his father. “My dad wasn’t involved in politics, but he always loved politics,” Joe explained. “And we always watched the news. There’s no doubt I got my inspiration for politics and news from him and from his example.”

Joe's journey through love has seen him marry three times. His first marriage to Melanie Hinton lasted from 1986 until 1999, during which they welcomed two sons, Joey and Andrew. However, after 12 years of marriage, Joe and Susan parted ways in 2013.

In 2018, Joe found love again with Mika Brzezinski, his Morning Joe cohost. Mika, who is also an author and political commentator, has brought a new chapter to Joe’s life. She’s the daughter of Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter and counselor to President Lyndon B. Johnson. Before marrying Joe, Mika was married to James Hoffer from 1993 to 2016. Together, they have two daughters, Emilie and Carlie Hoffer.
