Jonathan Lipnicki Opens Up About His Journey In Hollywood

Remember Jonathan Lipnicki, the kid who stole our hearts in the late '90s with his roles in Stuart Little and Doctor Dolittle? Well, after a while, he sort of stepped back from the spotlight. But here's the thing—Jonathan didn't exactly leave acting behind; he just decided to focus on other parts of his life. In a recent interview with E! News, he shared some pretty insightful thoughts about his journey. Let’s dive in.

High School Days: A Break from the Spotlight

When Jonathan was asked about his absence from the big screen, he explained it in a way that feels so relatable. “Really, it was just about going to high school. I wasn’t like, ‘I’m stepping away from acting.’ I still had my agent, and I auditioned here and there,” he revealed. At 35, Jonathan looks back on those years with a sense of perspective. “I played water polo, went to prom, and participated in youth league sports. Acting wasn’t the only thing in my life back then. It was about being a regular kid and experiencing all the normal stuff,” he added.

Chasing Roles and Facing Rejection

Jonathan also opened up about the challenges he faced when trying to land roles. “Let’s be real here—it’s okay to admit that acting is something I’ve always loved, but sometimes it just doesn’t love you back,” he said with a chuckle. “There was a period where I wasn’t working much, but I was still pursuing it. I auditioned a lot, but the ‘You got it’ calls were few and far between.”

  • Instead of letting those rejections get him down, Jonathan focused on improving his craft. “I think I lost touch with who I was for a while. To act, you really need to be in tune with yourself. Maybe I wasn’t at my best during that time, and that’s okay. I’m always willing to work on myself and take responsibility for what I can control,” he admitted honestly.

    Transitioning Behind the Camera

Jonathan’s career has taken some exciting turns lately. He’s been starring in films like The Killing Ground, Pooling to Paradise, and Man Goes on Rant. But that’s not all—he’s also stepped behind the camera, becoming an executive producer for Buffalo 8, a production company. “Over the last 25 years, I’ve had the chance to work with some incredible storytellers. I’m excited to use and expand my network to bring quality projects to life,” he wrote in a June 2023 post. “I want to thank Buffalo 8 and Adam Harris for giving me the opportunity to grow as a producer.”

Returning to TV with a Twist

Jonathan is making his return to the small screen on January 21 with the premiere of The Joe Schmo Show. In this scripted TV show, he plays a heightened version of himself—a bratty child actor. “Playing this role was so much fun and empowering. It was freeing to let loose and play someone completely different from who I am,” he told TV Insider. “When you start young in this industry, there’s this tendency to be a people pleaser. You don’t want to ruffle feathers. But this role allowed me to break free from that and explore a side of myself I don’t normally show.”
