Kelly Clarkson: The Life Of A Star Juggling Fame, Motherhood, And Career

Ever been on the New York City subway and thought you saw a familiar face? Next time, take a closer look, because you might just spot Kelly Clarkson. Known for her vibrant personality, Grammy-winning voice, and her daytime talk show, Kelly Clarkson has become a household name. But beneath the fame and the glitter lies a story of resilience, sacrifice, and a woman navigating the complexities of motherhood and career.

As Kelly Clarkson, now 42, confessed to the Associated Press, her daily subway rides are her norm. “Yeah, the subway’s just faster! So, we’re on it all the time,” she admitted with her signature candor. “I usually am in a mom bun, or a hat, and I get away with it. It’s only when I open my mouth to speak that people realize who I am.” The truth is, Kelly has mastered the art of blending in, even in one of the most bustling cities in the world.

For Kelly Clarkson, life has been anything but ordinary. The singer and TV personality, whose daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, has earned an impressive 22 Emmys, never imagined this level of success when she won the first season of American Idol at 20. But with fame comes sacrifice, and Kelly has often found herself questioning whether she can keep up with the relentless pace of her career.

The past six years have been a whirlwind for Kelly Clarkson, a journey filled with highs and lows. The Texas-born singer has faced both triumphs and trials, but through it all, she’s remained resilient.

At the celebration of her show's 1,000th episode in March, Kelly opened up to her audience, saying, “We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. I’ve been lost and alone, a lot… And along the way, we found comfort in one another.” Despite the challenges, The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered on September 9, 2019, and continued to create new episodes even during the tough months of the COVID-19 pandemic, filming at Kelly’s homes in California and Montana.

Even through her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, the father of her two children and her then-manager, Kelly kept the show rolling. “The thing that’s been kind of hard to navigate is I am an open book,” she shared with Entertainment Tonight. “But at some point, I’m a mama bear more than I am a person in the public eye. So, I care 100 percent more about my children than I do anything else on this planet.”

Resolving her divorce wasn’t easy; it involved lawsuits and strained feelings on both sides. In 2022, a court ordered Kelly to pay Brandon a one-time fee of over $1.3 million, $45,000 monthly in child support, and $115,000 monthly in spousal support until January 31, 2024. However, a year later, Kelly won a settlement of $2.6 million in back commissions from Brandon’s company after a court ruled that he shouldn’t have been making business deals as both her manager and agent. Eventually, the two sides reached an undisclosed agreement, and the lawsuit was dropped.
