There’s no doubt that Jamie Foxx cherishes his family more than anything else in the world. Whether it’s being a proud father to his two kids, Corinne Foxx and Annalise Bishop, or a devoted brother to his sisters, Deidra Dixon and the late DeOndra Dixon, Jamie has always worn his heart on his sleeve. But life took a tragic turn in late October when Jamie shared the devastating news of his younger sister DeOndra's passing at the young age of 36.
For Jamie Foxx, losing his beloved sister DeOndra was like having his heart shattered into a million pieces. In an emotional Instagram post, the Django Unchained star opened up about the heartache he was feeling. He described the moment as one of the hardest he’s ever faced, yet he found solace in reflecting on the beautiful memories they shared together.
Alongside a collection of photos capturing cherished moments with DeOndra, Jamie shared a heartfelt tribute to his sister. He wrote, “My beautiful loving sister DeOndra has transitioned… I say transitioned because she will always be alive in our hearts.” He went on to describe DeOndra as a "bright light" in everyone's life who knew her, a person who brought joy wherever she went.

Jamie reminisced about all the parties he hosted where DeOndra, who was born with Down syndrome, would steal the show with her incredible dance moves. He couldn’t help but smile when he thought of her dancing at his “Blame It” music video shoot or at the Grammys. He expressed his belief that she was now in heaven, "dancing with her wings on," a comforting thought that brought him peace.
Despite the overwhelming pain Jamie feels, he finds comfort in the countless amazing memories he made with DeOndra. From dancing in the “Blame It” video to performing at the Grammys, from sliding down his stairs with a grin as wide as the Rio Grande to serenading them with her music, these moments remind him of the love and laughter they shared. “I love you with every ounce of me,” Jamie wrote, acknowledging that though there's a hole in his heart, he'll fill it with the memories they created together.
Before her passing, DeOndra was honored in 2011 by being named an Ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. Jamie couldn’t have been prouder of his sister, who inspired countless individuals with her unfiltered love and authenticity. Speaking to People magazine in November 2011, Jamie said, “She’s a superstar now. One thing people may not understand is that the love a person with special needs gives you is unfiltered. There’s nothing in the way of them loving you and nothing in the way of them being upset with you either. You really get the true individual.”
Jamie Foxx feels incredibly lucky to have had DeOndra in his life. Her presence was a constant reminder of the importance of love, acceptance, and understanding. Her legacy lives on through the hearts of those she touched and the lives she inspired.
