As 'Blue Bloods' wraps up its final season, Tom Selleck is diving headfirst into the world of networking and project hunting. The legendary actor, who’s no stranger to hard work, is tapping into his Hollywood connections to secure exciting new gigs. And guess who’s at the top of his list? The beloved cast of 'Friends.'
Now 79, Tom Selleck is a force of nature when it comes to his career. An insider tells Closer, “He’s a powerhouse of a guy who’s hungry for more work. Retirement isn’t in his vocabulary. He’s a workaholic through and through.” Tom has been a staple in the entertainment industry for decades, starring as Commissioner Frank Reagan in the hit CBS show 'Blue Bloods' since it premiered in September 2010. But as the show nears its conclusion with its Season 14 finale in December, the reality of moving on is starting to hit home.
While Tom has always been open about his frustrations with the show’s cancellation, the weight of it all is really sinking in now. According to the source, “Tom has finally accepted the fact that he won’t be returning to the show, despite all his efforts to change the producers' minds. So, he’s taking proactive steps to secure his next big role.”

With a career spanning both film and television, Tom has built an impressive network of friends in Hollywood. And he’s not shy about reaching out to them. “He’s got a ton of pals in the industry,” the insider reveals, “and he’s actively tapping into those connections, especially the ones he made while playing Dr. Richard Burke on 'Friends.'”
Tom’s time on 'Friends' wasn’t just about playing Monica Geller’s love interest; it was also about forming genuine friendships. “People might not realize just how close he is with the 'Friends' cast,” the source shares. “They adored him when he was on the show. Now, he’s reaching out to them, hoping for a helping hand.”
Among his closest pals from the 'Friends' set are Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller, and Jennifer Aniston, who portrayed Monica’s best friend, Rachel Green. “There’s no one better suited to influence him than Jennifer and Courteney,” says the source. “He truly believes they can connect him with a role that fits his interests. And who knows? Maybe Jen could even get him a spot on 'The Morning Show.' That would be a dream come true for him!”
Earlier this month, Tom addressed the end of 'Blue Bloods' in an interview with TV Insider. He admitted, “I’m kind of frustrated.” He explained, “During those last eight episodes, I didn’t want to talk about the show ending. Instead, I wanted to focus on its continued success. We were ranked No. 9 out of 100 shows in total viewers for 2023-2024. If you exclude the three football shows, we were No. 6! I’m not about to become a bitter old guy yelling, 'Get off my lawn!'”
The final season of 'Blue Bloods' was split into two parts, with the first half airing in February and the second half premiering in October. Tom has been vocal about his wish for the show to continue for another season, despite its immense success. He expressed to the outlet, “If you were to tell the television network, ‘Here’s a show that can thrive in your worst time slot, guaranteeing you Friday night wins for the next 15 years,’ it would be hard to believe they’d let it go. My frustration lies in the fact that the show was always taken for granted because it performed so well from the start.”
As he sorts through his emotions, Tom confessed, “It’s going to take a long time to process all of this. After the final episode’s shoot, I said to myself, ‘I need to get to bed early tonight because I have to prepare my dialogue for Monday.’ But there was no Monday. It’s just going to take some time to adjust.”
