Abigail Hawk has plenty of fond memories from her time on Blue Bloods, particularly her interactions with the ever-charismatic Tom Selleck. However, the Illinois native recently revealed that Tom is a lot more low-key in real life compared to his commanding on-screen persona, Frank Reagan. In a candid conversation with Us Weekly, Abigail gave fans a glimpse into the actor's quieter side.
During a recent interview published on December 9, Abigail Hawk, now 42, shared her thoughts on the legendary Tom Selleck. "He’s very shy, which may not surprise people, but I think people assume that he commands the space just like Frank Reagan does," she said. It’s easy to see why fans might think that way. On the show, Frank Reagan is the epitome of confidence and authority, a man who always seems to have his finger on the pulse of the city he serves. But off-screen, Tom is a different kind of leader.
According to Abigail, Tom enjoys the simple pleasures in life. "When in all actuality he just wants to be doing what he does with what Frank does with [his dad], Henry [Len Cariou], sitting in an armchair working on a crossword," she explained. For Tom, downtime often involves working on his farm, spending time with his dogs, or diving into a script. "For Tom, that would be working on his farm and working with his dogs and working on a script," Abigail continued.

Abigail Hawk can’t say enough good things about Tom Selleck. "He's a credible person," she said, praising his integrity and professionalism. This admiration isn’t just based on his work ethic but also on how he treats others. Tom's kindness extends beyond the set, making him a beloved figure among his co-stars and crew.
Abigail's journey on Blue Bloods has been nothing short of transformative, and she owes much of it to Tom. "My audition was for the episode right after the pilot once it got picked up," she recalled during a special episode titled Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy on November 29. "It was really only meant to be one episode." But thanks to Tom's advocacy, Abigail's role grew into something much bigger.
Abigail's character, Abigail Baker, has been a fan favorite for 14 seasons. "Tom advocated for me and it changed my life," she reflected. Her time on the show has been a mix of joy and bittersweet moments. As the series wraps up, saying goodbye to her character has been an emotional experience. "I just always thought it was so neat that she was such a young leader, and I think she will continue to live on and help young women know that they can also be leaders," she told Woman’s Health on November 14.
Abigail is proud of her legacy as Detective Baker and believes her character will continue to inspire young women long after the series ends. "I think the reruns will still be going, you’ll still see it streaming on a random airplane going to Ireland," she said. "So I think I will continue having these young girls reach out to me and say, 'Hey, because of Detective Baker, I also took the exam.'" It’s a testament to the impact her character has had on viewers.
As the show wraps up, Abigail decided to take a piece of her Blue Bloods journey with her. "Also, I got to take the [One Police Plaza Headquarters] office door. It’s in my basement," she confessed. "Everybody was, like, 'What do you want from the set?' And I said the door and they’re like, 'The one PP door?' And I was, like, 'Yeah, that’s what I want … My fingerprints are on that door' … I have other things, too, but that’s clearly the coolest thing." It’s a fitting tribute to her time on the show.
In the retrospective Blue Bloods special on November 29, Abigail elaborated on her decision to take the door. "I’m making it very public and well known what I’m taking with me. It is that door that is directly behind you because I have let so many people in and out of that office," she said. "I already have a minivan for it. We’re ready to go." It’s clear that Abigail values the memories she’s made on set, and the door serves as a tangible reminder of those experiences.
