Julie Hagerty Opens Up About Life As A Grandma And Her Thrilling Career

Acting and Grandmotherhood: A Balanced Life

Acting and filmmaking have always been Julie Hagerty's passions, but lately, the star of Instant Family has added another fulfilling role to her life: grandmotherhood. At the New York City premiere of Marriage Story on November 10, the talented actress couldn’t stop gushing about her new role and shared how she finds joy in balancing her work and family life.

During the event, the radiant 64-year-old beauty, who was accompanied by her husband Richard Kagan, told Closer Weekly, “I’m happy when I’m working and I’m happy when I’m with my granddaughter. I’m just a happy person!” She went on to share details about her granddaughter, Margot, who was about to hit the nine-month mark. "She’s just a little thing!" Julie said with a beaming smile.

The Joys of Grandmotherhood

Julie, who plays the role of Sandra in the Noah Baumbach-directed film hitting theaters on December 6, admitted that she absolutely adores spoiling her granddaughter. “Yes!” the proud grandma confessed with a laugh. “Every little move she makes is like, ‘What? How is this possible?’ She’s darling, beautiful, and serious — it’s just the most wonderful experience.”

Even though Julie's schedule has been filled with baby playdates rather than casting calls lately, she couldn’t help but reflect on her incredible career. “I’m proud to be working,” Julie marveled to Closer, adding that she’s especially grateful for her role in Marriage Story. “I’m really genuinely thrilled and honored to be in this movie. It’s an extraordinary film,” she said with admiration.

In a previous interview with The Gate magazine, Julie opened up about her most recent movie roles and explained why she gravitates toward certain characters. “It’s the words and the director,” she shared with the outlet in March. “I love working with talented people. But I guess I just love the character. Plus, I love to work. It’s what keeps me inspired.”
