Hey there, folks. Let’s talk about what happened when the country music world gathered for the 2018 CMA Awards on November 14. As much as we love seeing all the big names light up the stage, one familiar face was notably absent—Kenny Chesney. It turns out, Kenny had to bow out of his scheduled performance at the awards show due to a deeply personal reason: a death in his family. This left fans heartbroken and sending their love and support to Kenny and his loved ones.
Just before the show in Nashville, the official CMA Twitter account broke the news to everyone. "CMA Musical Event of the Year winner and Entertainer of the Year nominee @KennyChesney will be unable to appear on tonight’s telecast due to a death in the family," the message read. It was a tough moment for everyone involved, but Kenny's fans rallied together to show their support.

Fans wasted no time reaching out to Kenny with their love and concern. One person tweeted, "We’re so sorry to hear this. Keeping Kenny and his family in our thoughts and prayers." Another chimed in, saying, "Kenny, so very sorry to hear about your loss… may God bless your family during this time… will miss seeing you at the CMA’s… continuous prayers." It was heartwarming to see how the country music community came together to support Kenny in his time of need.
Even with this difficult situation, Kenny found a way to celebrate his recent achievements. Although he didn't directly address the loss on social media, he did take the opportunity to express his gratitude for winning the CMA Musical Event of the Year award. On Twitter and Instagram, he shared his excitement about the honor, saying, "Sometimes you hear songs and they just feel good. Occasionally one of the ones that feels good says something that people are needing to hear. That’s how I felt about 'Everything’s Gonna Be Alright' the moment I heard it. Being able to be part of David Lee Murphy’s song was awesome. Proud today."

Meanwhile, at the CMA Awards, Keith Urban stepped into the spotlight as he was awarded the Entertainer of the Year title, beating out Kenny and other top contenders. In his emotional acceptance speech, Keith expressed his gratitude, saying, "I have so many people to thank, I wish I had more time to do it right now. The fans who are phenomenal, country radio, everybody who voted for this, thank you so much… above all, just God, I thank you for the blessings of this."
Keith concluded his heartfelt speech by saying, "I wish my dad was alive to see this, but he’s watching over me tonight. And I just feel very, very blessed and very grateful that I get to do what I do. Thank you, all of you, for coming out and god bless country music. God bless you all."
Though Kenny wasn’t able to grace the stage this year, his presence was certainly felt by fans and fellow artists alike. Here’s hoping we’ll see him back in the spotlight next year, ready to bring the house down with his incredible talent and heartfelt performances. Until then, let’s keep Kenny and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
