Grace Adler's Journey Back To NBC: What's Happening In The Will & Grace Revival?

Hey there, TV fans! Let me tell you, the return of Will & Grace is like a warm hug from an old friend. Grace Adler and her crew are officially back on NBC, and trust me, the revival that premiered on September 28th has been nothing short of a blast. The buzz around Grace’s storyline and what Debra Messing, the actress behind the iconic character, is up to these days is huge. If you're curious about what's happening with Grace and her world, you're in the right place. So, grab your popcorn, and let's dive in!

Grace Adler's Baby: A Quick Recap

Here's the deal: yes, Grace Adler did have a baby on Will & Grace. In the original series finale, Grace, after a whirlwind encounter with her estranged husband, Leo (played by the incredibly talented Harry Connick, Jr.), found herself pregnant. Fast forward, and they remarry, welcoming a beautiful daughter named Laila. The family even relocates to Italy for a while, but they eventually return to their beloved New York City. Now, here's where things get interesting. Through a series of time jumps, we learn that Grace and her lifelong BFF, Will Truman (Eric McCormack), haven't spoken for 20 years. But fate brings them back together when they coincidentally run into each other at their kids' college dorm. Turns out, Grace's daughter Laila and Will's son Ben (from his relationship with Vince D’Angelo) end up marrying, providing a full-circle moment for the series.

  • Now, with the revival, you might be wondering how Grace and Will's families factor into the storyline. Surprisingly, they don't. During a past interview, executive producer and show creator David Kohan revealed that the reboot essentially erases the fact that Will and Grace were both parents in the original finale. Why? Well, the team wanted to focus on the essence of Will and Grace’s friendship without the added layer of parenthood. “We frankly did not want to see them being either good parents or bad parents,” David explained. “We wanted them to be Will and Grace.” In the premiere of the reboot, Karen Walker (the fabulous Megan Mullally) hilariously explains why Ben and Laila aren’t part of the new show. Falling asleep and waking up in Will and Grace’s NYC apartment, Karen exclaims, “What’s going on? What’s happening? Who won the election?” She then shares her wild dream where Will lives with a “swarthy man in uniform” and Grace is married to a “Jew doctor.” Will perfectly sets up the reboot’s updated plot by saying, “That never happened,” to which Karen quips, “Oh, what a relief! Nobody wants to see you two raise kids.” Classic Karen!

Debra Messing's Real-Life Pregnancy During Will & Grace

Here’s something you might not know: yes, Debra Messing was actually pregnant during the filming of Season 6 of Will & Grace. She was expecting her son, Roman Walker Zelman, whose dad is her ex-husband Daniel Zelman. Now 13, Roman has grown into quite the young man. During her pregnancy, fans criticized the showrunners for how they handled hiding her baby bump. Grace, who was usually dressed in stylish, form-fitting outfits, suddenly started wearing looser clothing. Debra even cleverly concealed her growing belly by holding various objects in front of her. Toward the end of her pregnancy, she had to step away from the show for the final four episodes of the sixth season. It wasn’t an easy time, but Debra managed it with grace (pun intended).

    Is Debra Messing Pregnant Now?

There have been rumors floating around that Debra might be expecting again, but as far as we know, she’s not pregnant. Right now, the Emmy-winning actress is juggling her acting career with being a dedicated mom to her son, Roman. She's open about the challenges of balancing work and family life. “I never spend enough time with my son. Never. I always want more,” she has shared. So, how does she manage it all? “I am a success when I feel like I have a balance of the things that are important to me. The times when I was not happy or not fulfilled were when I was neglecting certain parts of myself, whether it was neglecting to be a great mom or being completely there at work. It’s an act of balance,” she once said. Debra’s dedication to her craft and her family is truly inspiring.
