Let's talk about HGTV's hit show, Good Bones. One of the reasons it became such a massive success was because of its lovable cast, and Austin Aynes was definitely one of the standout characters. Fans fell in love with his hardworking attitude and charm as he became an integral part of the demolition team led by Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E. Laine. Over the course of eight seasons, Austin helped transform countless homes, but now that the show has wrapped up, you might be wondering—what's next for him?
Austin's journey to Good Bones is almost as interesting as the show itself. This Indianapolis native, who graduated from Butler University, originally planned to pursue a career in physical therapy. But life has a funny way of throwing curveballs, and for Austin, that came in the form of a fateful phone call from his coworker. "During my senior year, my demo buddy told me his sister's company was filming a TV pilot and wanted me to participate," Austin shared on his bio for Reason to Dance. "So, I skipped a social psychology test to check it out." And just like that, season one of Good Bones began, coinciding with the start of Austin's new career path.
After realizing that his applications for physical therapy programs weren't getting much traction, Austin decided to dive headfirst into construction. "I became a full-time construction laborer, and the rest is history," he said. Austin's role on the show wasn't limited to demolition; he quickly proved himself to be a jack-of-all-trades. "I handle bookkeeping, deal with city communications, assist Karen on small-scale projects, and even step in as a handyman when needed," he explained to HGTV. It's no wonder the fans loved him so much—he brought a lot to the table.

In August 2023, Mina dropped the news on her "Mina AF" podcast that Good Bones was officially ending after its eighth season. The finale episode was bittersweet, featuring Tad Starsiak's proposal to Anna Spiars in their newly renovated home. While it was a beautiful ending to the series, it left many fans wondering about the future of the Two Chicks and a Hammer team, especially Austin.
Fast forward to October 2023, and Mina revealed some surprising updates during another podcast episode. It turns out that Austin is no longer part of the Two Chicks and a Hammer team. Mina explained that she had to make some tough decisions, including downsizing her team, closing her retail store, and putting her company headquarters on the market. "I wanted to find a soft landing for my team members, so I reached out to Tad. I told him I couldn't maintain such a large team anymore, and luckily, he agreed to take on Austin and another employee," she said.
Austin's transition to Tad's company seems like a natural fit, given their history on the show. Tad's own business ventures have been growing, and having someone as skilled and dedicated as Austin on board is undoubtedly a huge asset. While it's certainly a change, it's exciting to see where this new chapter takes him.
Austin's contributions to Good Bones went beyond just demolition. His positive attitude, work ethic, and willingness to take on any challenge made him an invaluable member of the team. Whether he was tearing down walls, crunching numbers, or helping Karen with smaller projects, Austin always brought his A-game. Fans will undoubtedly miss seeing him on-screen, but his impact on the show—and the lives of those he worked with—will be remembered for years to come.
