Elton John has always been a fighter, and now he's proving it again by taking his health seriously. After years of health challenges, the music legend is finally committed to making lasting changes to ensure he stays strong and healthy—not just for himself but for his loved ones too. This new chapter in his life has brought relief to those who’ve been concerned about his well-being, and it's clear that this time, Elton means business.
According to an insider, Elton is more dedicated than ever to sticking with a healthy lifestyle. “He’s really sticking to it this time and following a sensible diet that could potentially reverse his type 2 diabetes—it’s certainly possible,” the source exclusively told Closer. The plan includes fiber-rich foods, non-starchy veggies, fresh fruits, healthy grains, and portion control, which was one of his biggest challenges in the past. Low salt and no added sugar are also key components of his new eating habits. By focusing on these healthier choices, Elton is giving himself the best chance at fighting back against diabetes and improving his overall health.
Elton’s battle with type 2 diabetes dates back to the early 2000s, but this time, he's determined to make lasting changes. “Of course, he misses dessert, but he can have a small glass of 100 percent fruit juice when he gets a sweet tooth,” the source added. Elton has noticed a big difference in how he feels since adopting this new approach. “He feels more energetic than he has in years,” the insider shared. “Elton’s had more than his share of health problems, but he wants to be around for his boys, and it helps that he has such an understanding partner in David [Furnish].”

At 77, Elton hasn’t shied away from discussing his health struggles in recent years. He’s undergone knee replacement surgeries, a hip replacement, and dealt with injuries from falling at home. Despite all of this, Elton continues to inspire others with his resilience. In October, during the New York Film Festival premiere of Elton John: Never Too Late, the “Rocket Man” singer, who shares kids Zachary and Elijah with David, 62, reflected on his life’s highs and lows.
“To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left. I don’t have tonsils, adenoids, or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate,” Elton said during his speech. “I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me. I want to thank David and Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world.”
Elton recently revealed that he’s been dealing with eye issues, adding another hurdle to his health journey. “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France,” he explained during an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America this month. “It’s been four months now since I’ve been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.” Despite the challenges, Elton remains hopeful. “So there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK,” he said, acknowledging that he feels “kind of stuck at the moment.”
Elton admitted that his current situation is tough. “I can’t see anything, can’t read anything, can’t watch anything,” he shared. But he’s not giving up. “I’m taking an initiative to try and see if there’s anything that can be done to improve my eyesight.” Even through these difficulties, Elton looks back on his life and career with gratitude. “I’m just very lucky and very grateful,” he said with a smile.
Elton has also been vocal about making dietary changes to manage his diabetes. On a November 11 episode of the “Ruthie’s Table 4” podcast, he discussed his approach. “I can have an apple, I can eat a bit of melon,” he explained. “As long as you’re sensible about it, it doesn’t shoot your blood sugar up. But what I crave is chocolate and ice cream, I can’t have any ice cream.” By being mindful of his choices, Elton is taking control of his health and proving that it’s never too late to make positive changes.
