Beth And Rip’s ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff: What’s Next For Kelly Reilly And Cole Hauser?

Even though Yellowstone wrapped up its five-season run, fans of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler don’t have to worry—they’re not done with the characters just yet. In fact, a brand-new spinoff is on the horizon, starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as they continue their iconic roles. Let’s dive into what’s coming next for these beloved characters.

Who’s Behind the Magic of Beth and Rip’s New Adventure?

When it comes to the Yellowstone universe, one name stands out above all others: Taylor Sheridan. As the creator and writer behind the entire Yellowstone franchise, Taylor is once again stepping up to bring this spinoff to life. While he’s juggling multiple projects—like the prequels 1883 and 1923, plus his latest series Landman—Taylor has proven time and again that he’s got the talent and vision to make it all work. And if his track record is any indication, this spinoff is going to be something truly special.

In August 2024, Deadline reported that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser were in talks to reprise their roles for what was initially thought to be a sixth season of Yellowstone. However, the show is now officially spinning off into its own series. These negotiations have been ongoing for months, and it seems like everything is falling into place for this next chapter.

Will Familiar Faces Join Beth and Rip in Their New Journey?

According to Deadline, characters from Yellowstone will indeed make appearances in the new spinoff. This series will take place in the present day, following the events of the show’s series finale, which aired on December 15, 2024. While the official title hasn’t been announced yet, it’s safe to say that fans can expect some familiar faces to pop up along the way, keeping the story grounded in the Yellowstone universe we’ve all come to love.

What Happened to Beth and Rip in the Yellowstone Series Finale?

The series finale of Yellowstone left a lot of questions unanswered, but it also set the stage perfectly for this new spinoff. After Kayce Dutton sold the Yellowstone Ranch to the Broken Rock Tribe for the same price the Dutton family paid for it back in 1883, Beth made a bold move by purchasing her own cattle ranch in Dillon, Montana. She moved in with Rip and her adopted son, Carter, played by Finn Little, marking a fresh start for the couple.

But before they could fully settle into their new life, Beth had to deal with the aftermath of killing her brother Jamie. She enlisted Rip’s help to dispose of Jamie’s body, adding yet another layer of complexity to their already intense relationship. Meanwhile, Rip extended a job offer to Lloyd, played by Forrie J. Smith, but Lloyd declined, choosing a different path for himself.

Executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros shared her thoughts on the series finale with Variety, saying, “This last batch of episodes leads us to the end of an era. Taylor Sheridan has masterfully crafted an ending that feels both shocking and inevitable at the same time. You really need to experience the full story to fully grasp everything that’s come before.”

Why Did Yellowstone Come to an End?

From the very beginning, Yellowstone was driven by the star power of Kevin Costner, who brought his legendary talent to the role of John Dutton, the rancher and patriarch of the Dutton family. When the show premiered in 2018, Kevin was the main reason fans tuned in week after week.

However, in June 2024, Kevin took to Instagram to announce that he wouldn’t be returning to Yellowstone. At the time, he was busy directing and starring in Horizon: An American Saga, parts 1 and 2. In his post, Kevin explained, “After this long year-and-a-half of working on Horizon, and doing all the things that that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone—that beloved series that I love, that I know you love—I just realized that I am not going to be able to continue season 5-B, or into the future.”
